An ultra-compact AM/FM digital radio, the Sangean PR-D7 weighs just under 1.5 pounds and measures 8 inches long by 4-1/2 inches tall. It features conveniently located and an easily readable display for frequency and current time. It offers excellent sensitivity and selectivity, and will surprise you at its ability to pull in distant stations.
The radio can be set to automatically turn off after 120, 90, 60, 45, 30, or 15 minutes, so you can fall asleep to the sound of music, talk, or news. Sleep alarm allows you to wake up to music or beeper with Humane Wake Up System--which gradually ramps up the alarm volume to wake you, instead of delivering an abrasive jolt.
Five presets are available on each band and the auto seek will automatically find the active stations across the entire band rather than to the next frequency. It can be powered by the included AC adapter, or by six AA batteries (not included). Additionally, if you use rechargeable AA batteries, they'll be charged right in the radio when it's powered by the AC adapter. It also features a headphone jack, which automatically turns off the speaker when headphones are used.

I use a transportable radio a lot, and I hate throwing away exhausted Aa alkaline batteries. But most radios perform poorly on NiMh rechargeables because of the lower voltage and because old-style NiMh batteries self-discharge in a few days or a consolidate of weeks to the point that they need recharging again. This radio can use NiMh batteries with no loss of performance due to lower voltage. I suggest Sanyo Eneloops because they self-discharge much more moderately than lowly NiMh batteries.
One word of caution though. You can recharge the batteries using the in case,granted plug-in adapter, but because the recharge will be in series the batteries will not be recharged individually. This works Ok for one or two recharges, but then the batteries tend to get unbalanced -- some will be higher voltage than others -- and performance will suffer. You will also explore a loss of vigor capacity (the need for recharge will come to be increasingly more frequent). If you recharge the NiMh batteries in a good charger like a Maha or a La Cross, however, the cells will be expensed individually and there will be no observed loss of capacity.
